The Lyme Regis Film Society was formed in 1988 in response to a demand from local film-goers who wanted to see up-to-date films that were not necessarily 'mainstream', or in other words, were not likely to have a screening at the historic Regent Cinema.
It was clear from the response to the very first season that there was indeed a following for such films and the Society has now shown around 500 films during the last 35+ years - 2013 being our “silver” anniversary. Membership has risen from about 80 people in the first season to around 250 in recent years. Following the catastrophic fire which destroyed the Regent in 2016, we moved to the smaller Marine Theatre, and for the 2024-25 season we are looking forward to an even more cinematic experience, as the Theatre has now installed a new and up to date digital projection system. |
